PHIL STuEN
Phil is the owner, principal architect, and builder behind Dephiance Design Build, bringing over 30 years of elite design and construction experience to the firm. As the son of a custom home builder, Phil's foundation in the industry was forged on active job sites from an early age. This lifelong exposure to the trades instilled a relentless work ethic and a deep, practical understanding of structure long before he began his formal architectural training.
After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington, Phil spent years mastering the realities of the field with a local custom home builder, successfully managing the construction of over 40 custom homes. Driven to marry his field expertise with high-level design theory, he went on to earn a Master of Architecture from the University of Colorado, where he also honed his craft within the prestigious University of Colorado Design Build Workshop.
It is this dual mastery that defines Phil’s unique approach to residential architecture. With one foot firmly planted in the rigorous practicality of construction and the other driven to push the boundaries of artistic form, he eliminates the friction traditionally found between architect and builder. As the guiding force behind Dephiance Design Build, Phil creates structures that are as structurally sound and flawlessly executed as they are architecturally inspiring.

Carissa is the creative force behind the interior and landscape design branches of Dephiance Design Build. Working alongside her husband, Phil—the firm’s owner, architect, and builder—she brings a rare, comprehensive approach to home design that seamlessly bridges the gap between indoor luxury and outdoor living.
With formal credentials from the New York Institute of Art and Design, Carissa pairs sharp interior aesthetics with structural functionality. Her expertise, however, extends far beyond the four walls of a house. As a certified WSU Master Gardener with over a decade of hands-on experience, she brings a deep understanding of Pacific Northwest flora and landscape architecture to every project. This dual expertise allows Dephiance Design Build to offer a truly integrated, inside-out design experience.
Whether she is curating cohesive indoor finishes, drafting spatial layouts, or designing sustainable, year-round gardens, Carissa ensures that every layer of a home feels connected. Clients rely on her ability to translate their personal style into timeless interiors and living landscapes that evolve beautifully over time.

Anthon serves as the Construction Manager for Dephiance Design Build, bringing more than 30 years of deeply diversified building experience to the team. Having mastered virtually every trade within the industry, Anthon possesses an all-encompassing understanding of the construction process from foundation to finish. His extensive portfolio spans high-end custom homes, complex residential remodels, and large-scale commercial developments.
Anthon thrives on the complex problem-solving required by one-of-a-kind projects. Rather than shying away from architectural challenges, he welcomes the intricate, bespoke details that define the Dephiance portfolio. His master-level command of building trades makes him the perfect bridge between Phil’s forward-thinking architectural visions and the physical reality of the job site.
